BEBP 'Taste of Work' Event

On Friday 12th February, Cleverbox participated in the Bromley Education Business Partnership's 'Taste of Work' Event, engaging with 13-17 year old students.

The purpose of the day was to give students from schools around the borough a snapshot into different working environments and to offer careers advice. Rob and Katie from Cleverbox gave an informative and interactive presentation, offering advice for those interested in the design and IT sectors, ending with a logo competition which the students really enjoyed, as can be seen by some of their comments:

Cleverbox Prospectuses benefit International Tree Foundation

Through making a donation for every prospectus we produce for Schools, Cleverbox has donated over £875.00 to the International Tree Foundation.

On behalf of each organisation we work with, and as part of our environmental policy, we make a donation to the ITF (International Tree Foundation), the world's longest standing tree planting charity, for every prospectus produced. In turn this project enables Cleverbox customers to lower their own carbon footprint through tree planting and receive a personalised certificate to display in school.

ITF will, on our behalf, ensure that this money is spent on tree planting projects overseas including East, Central and the Horn of Africa.

National Autistic Society Prospectuses

The National Autistic Society is the UK's leading charity for people affected by autism. They run a range of non profit-making schools and colleges for students of all ages with widely varying needs, including more able students and those with high support needs arising out of challenging behaviours.

Cleverbox were approached by the NAS brand marketing department to review and advise on providing consistency across their communications materials for schools. Following a creative review process, Cleverbox created prospectus templates which followed the NAS brand identity guidelines and involved pupils from each school by asking them to submit sketches for inclusion in their prospectus, engaging them in the process and providing a sense of ownership in the end results.

Prospectuses for four schools have been produced to date with further material to follow.

Cleverbox Wins Writtle College Pitch

Cleverbox is delighted to have won the contract to redesign the 2011 Undergraduate Prospectus for Writtle College, a partner of the University of Essex, following a competitive pitch and presentation.

Writtle College is unique. It has a warm, friendly and cosmopolitan student village set in its own 220 hectare estate with landscaped gardens, working animal units, construction areas, workshops and retail, business and leisure operations.

We look forward to working with the Writtle team over the next couple of months to deliver a fresh, clean prospectus with striking imagery to convey the special atmosphere of the College and to affirm its position as a leading Higher Education establishment in its field.

Cleverbox has moved!

The Cleverbox team have now settled into a new head office, based at London Road, Bromley, Kent. The decision to expand the premises was taken in order to accommodate the growing number of services and initiatives that Cleverbox provide to the education sector and to house our expanding team.

Cleverbox designed the studio to suit our particular requirements and, as demonstrated in the images below, the space has been transformed from an empty shell to a contemporary and spacious working environment which we are very proud of.

Student Project Room

As part of our social responsibility the new studio accomodates a student ‘Project Room’ – which encourages students from a variety of schools to work directly with our design team on such projects as logo development, prospectus and website design.

This facility not only provides an excellent resource for schools to engage and educate their students in the design world, but also offers an invaluable learning curve to pupils wanting to experience working life outside of the classroom.

The project room has already been used by students and student engagement projects for 2010 are already being booked in.

Managing Director Robert Kemp explains, “The Company has changed significantly over the last 2 years and this move compliments everything we are doing with the direction of the Company and the extended services we are now able to offer"

Newham College Recruitment Campaign

'Join the Learning Revolution!', a recruitment campaign designed by Cleverbox for Newham College has recently hit the streets of London.

Cleverbox has been working with Newham College since the start of 2009, designing their brand identity, prospectus and marketing communications collateral.

The College required a new recruitment campaign to raise awareness of college courses and a new diploma on offer, whilst attracting students from a busy inner-city environment. Cleverbox devised a vibrant, colourful, text-based above-the-line campaign which has appeared in a variety of media from London Underground and buses to newspaper adverts, external banners and online banner ads.

The campaign launched at the end of October 2009.

Whitefield School Student Engagement Project

A selection of students worked collaboratively with Karen O'Hara, Cleverbox's Creative Director, on a project which saw them carry out design research, discuss concept ideas and learn how to apply them to the design process. The students were actively involved in the design development of the Whitefield School prospectus and school signage, giving them real pride and a sense of ownership for the end results which can be seen below. Both students and teachers felt that they had learnt a great deal from the day.

Launch of new Harris Academy, Purley

The Academy opened in September 2009 in place of Haling Manor School and is the ninth Harris Academy to open in south London. Cleverbox have produced the branding, prospectus, websites and marketing collateral for all nine Harris Academies.

Cleverbox were able to work with the Academy to deliver a logo design competition which involved a group of students researching design concepts and submitting ideas for the new Academy logo. The project enabled the students to feel involved and have a feeling of ownership of the brand identity for the new Academy. The winning design idea was used by Cleverbox as the basis for the final Academy logo design, seen below.

Cleverbox applied the new branding to a wide range of marketing material for the Academy including their uniform, prospectus, website and signage. Cleverbox have also been heavily involved in pupil recruitment for the Academy with great success.

The Basildon Academies

Cleverbox have recently been appointed to work with ‘The Basildon Academies’ Trust to brand and market the new Basildon Academies in Essex.

As well as ensuring the local community is kept up to date with developments, Cleverbox are involved in producing Business Support literature, full branding for both the Academies and the Trust as well as prospectus, web site and student recruitment marketing ahead of the opening date in September 2010.

The Academies will position themselves at the forefront of Business and Enterprise learning, and the partnership with Cleverbox will ensure that this professionalism, freedom for learning and advanced quality of tutoring is portrayed to the community in the correct way.

Working with NACE

Throughout 2009 Cleverbox continue to work with and support the NACE (National Association for Able Children in Education).

NACE are a registered charity that is involved with schools throughout the UK to support the daily work of teachers providing for pupils with high abilities whilst enabling all pupils to flourish.

Cleverbox began supporting and working with the charity in 2007, attending teaching seminars as well as providing complementary literature for nationwide conferences to help spearhead what we feel is a very worthy cause in UK education.

Digital Prospectus service

Cleverbox have recently launched the new Digital Prospectus service, which will enable schools to create interactive, online versions of their schools prospectus for use on their web sites.

Highworth Grammar School Student Logo Competition!

Towards the end of 2008 Cleverbox worked with students at Highworth Grammar School in Ashford to design and develop a new school logo.

The Cleverbox ‘School Logo Competition’ was implemented throughout the school, with over one thousand students taking part. Lesson plans, work packs and promotional materials were provided to create a real buzz around the school.

The winner of the competition, judged by the Cleverbox design team and members of Highworth staff, had their design professionally created and it has so far been applied to newsletters, internal displays and prospectus designs that we are working on for the school.

“One of the most exciting and fun things we did last year was run our School Logo Competition with the invaluable help of Cleverbox. After Cleverbox had briefed us, the Art Department got things moving, asking every student in the school to enter the competition. The art teachers took assemblies, using Cleverbox advice and giving ideas to students.

All in all it was a brilliant experience, uniting the school in the most positive way because we then went on to consult with mentor groups to decide on our school aims which stand proudly alongside our new logo. Our logo is on everything – stationery, jumpers, posters, publications, etc. Instead of the old, unimaginative and uninspiring logo, we have one which reflects the vibrant image of the school and, importantly, it is a logo of which students are proud because the design came from them.

The whole competition let students see just how much they can have a voice in school and be a part in school decisions. Yes, it’s definitely one of the best things we have done!”
