The Ofsted process
You may be aware of recent reports highlighting the practice of schools actively monitoring website activity to try and anticipate Ofsted inspections. These reports, including investigations by Schools Week, revealed that some schools were tracking document downloads to anticipate impending inspections, which as a direct result has prompted Ofsted to revise its approach to website audits.
While the specifics of these changes remain confidential to prevent circumvention, it’s understood that Ofsted are now accessing school websites and downloading key documents within 24hrs of the actual inspection date. Meaning, by the time they are looking at your website, you would have already been notified of the inspection.
This shift effectively eliminates the ability of schools to predict inspections based on website activity. Ofsted has also indicated it is exploring technical measures, potentially including the use of VPNs (Virtual Private Network), to further obscure its website access prior to inspections.
