During the Covid-19 pandemic, successes and celebrations, values, and key messages were moved online and shared through virtual platforms – including social media, school websites and emails. Now that schools have reopened and pupils are back in the building, however, school displays themselves are becoming increasingly more important at welcoming students back to school life, and ensuring that the core messages of the school community are clear and obvious.
In early 2021, the official UK Government website reported that, between the return to schools in September 2020 and January 2021, evidence strongly suggested a decline in the mental wellbeing of school children[1]. This was linked with anxiety, keeping up with schoolwork, coping with exams, and being worried that exams would be cancelled – suggesting that schools need to become even more focussed on consistently communicating with pupils and their parents, and ensuring that they are well informed on the changes and shifts to school life.
From experience, we have found that high quality visual school displays are an integral part of aiding children’s mental health in school, with some of the main benefits including:
- The communication of messages which benefit the whole school community, from the core values of the school through to new initiatives and celebrations – for example environmental drives and community projects.
