How To Effectively Ensure that Your School Logo is Protected

Your school logo is a fundamental element of your branding. How do you protect yourself from plagiarism?

Cleverbox has been commissioned to create hundreds of logos during our time, and we are immensely proud of the work we produce. We know that you also take pride in your school logo and branding, so here are some quick steps you can take to ensure that your school logo is legally protected.

What follows are four steps that should be taken to protect your school logo: –

  • After we’ve completed our creative process and the logo has been finalised and been paid for, the intellectual copyright of the logo belongs to the school.
  • Registering the logo will ensure that you have verifiable evidence of copyright or trademark ownership to help prove and protect your rights at a worldwide level.
  • Whilst you can register to copyright a logo, you cannot copyright the name or slogan of the school. If you want to protect these too you will need to register for a trademark.
  • If the school wishes to register the copyright or trademark with the UK Copyright Service then they are free to do so.

Please note: To enforce copyright legislation through a lawyer can be a costly exercise. A simple telephone call or letter may be an easier and less expensive way to resolve a dispute.
